A collection that centers the overlooked, complicated figure of the African brother. Inspired by the Zulu folktale Untombi Yapansi, this body of work follows the moment of devastating clarity when the brother, once the girl’s protector realises the cost of his choices. His grief is not loud, but still. His sorrow lives not in the wailing, but in the silence after betrayal.
In this collection, E_mania reframes masculinity as haunted, human, and held accountable. The featured visual, a solemn man covering his face in shame and reckoning captures the intimate rupture between masculine duty and emotional consequence. Set against a flat, muted indigo sky and wrapped in bruised mauves and dusty charcoals, the palette reflects the emotional erosion of a man now conceal a face caught between guilt and memory.
“Unomhlobo” is a cultural interrogation of the male presence in family and folklore. In many African homes, brothers are both shields and shadows, central yet silent, formative yet easily excused. This collection breaks that silence. The designs lean into sculpted silhouettes, raw edge finishes, and protective forms that mirror the burden of hidden emotion.
